Diabetes Awareness Volunteer Programs Abroad – Help Diabetes Education In Jamaica

Are you seeking to travel abroad to join thousands to help fight diabetes? Are you a health care worker, a diabetic patient, medical personnel/student or a casual volunteer looking to come to Jamaica to help provide diabetes education? Or perhaps you wish to teach Jamaicans about diabetes awareness, management and prevention? If so then this project was made with you in mind.

Jamaica International Projects has partnered with diabetic associations across Jamaica to have our volunteers lend their skills, time and knowledge to help locals who suffer from diabetes. There are many ways that volunteers can help, from administering blood sugar tests, educating locals on the dangers of diabetes and how to prevent it, and so much more.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for you to help prevent the growing cases of diabetes diagnosed in Jamaica each year, and also to reach out to the thousands of Jamaicans living with this disease and help them to manage it. By joining our volunteer for diabetes program you will be helping to set the foundation for many generations of Jamaicans for years to come.

You will be placed at diabetic centres and clinics in Kingston, Saint Catherine, Montego Bay or St. Ann.

Amount Of Participants:

This project can accommodate up to 30 volunteers at a time. If you have a larger group we will need to make special arrangements.

Although you do not need prior medical experience to join our diabetes volunteer opportunities abroad, volunteers with experience working in this field, medical students and doctors/nurses will receive advanced placements where they can perform more complicated tasks.

Project Activities:

Your Program Advisor will work with you during the application process to outline and discuss your goals for your program, and the activities that you would like to perform in Jamaica. We ask that you pre plan for your program, so that you will have clear objectives to follow and we can find a placement that can facilitate your needs.

We encourage volunteers to collect resources back home to donate to the facility where they will be volunteering. We will provide you with a list of their greatest needs. This is NOT a mandatory part of your program, so let us know if you are unable to do this.

We will provide you with any assistance you may need regarding documentation to apply for grants or funding, and we suggest that you read our fundraising & crowdfunding guide for great ideas and tips to help raise funds to cover your trip to Jamaica.

Diabetes volunteer abroad programs start from a minimum of 1 week in length and run for up to 3 months. You will need to consult your country’s consular office for visa requirements if you wish to stay longer.

Your First Day:

On your first day you will be accompanied to your project by your Program Advisor, who will introduce you to the local staff and ensure that you are settled in. After you tour the property you will be shown where to purchase lunch daily.

Each day our trusted company representatives will transport you to and from your project. Our drivers are courteous and operate on a timely manner. The transfer times are based on your itinerary, so if you wish to spend more or less time at your project on a particular day, please advise us in advance.
