About Your Host: Jomo Barnett

Your trip is hosted and guided by Jomo Barnett, the Co-Founder of Jamaica International Projects. A proud Jamaican native, Jomo is dedicated to providing an authentic and impactful experience for every volunteer. He combines his deep knowledge of the island with a passion for community development, ensuring that your volunteer work is both safe and genuinely beneficial to the local community. Sample Itinerary (8-Day Package)

Day 1: Arrival & Welcome to Jamaica

Arrive at Norman Manley International Airport (KIN) in Kingston. We will track your flight and pick you up at the airport, then transfer you to the accommodation. You will settle in, meet the team and your fellow volunteers, and enjoy a welcome dinner as you prepare for an exciting spring break getaway.

We volunteered by painting the girl’s dorms at Jamaica National Children’s Home. It was the most wonderful experience as we really got to know the girls and their personalities. I really enjoyed spending time with the children and playing with them. It truly was an amazing experience. The excursions really immersed us in the culture of Jamaica. The food and accommodation were lovely and gave us an authentic experience of Jamaica.

I had such a great experience!

Overall, I had an amazing time with this program. I love how individualize the projects were and how Jomo really invested his time into making sure you enjoyed each experience. Working with the nutritionist was a wonderful time for me and taught me many lessons that I will use as a further in my career. As well as, as the children’s home open my eyes to a whole different side of life that I have never seen before. As far as the accommodation goes, it was excellent. I enjoyed getting to know him and his guest that were staying. For the future, hopefully, there will be more volunteers than one at a time. I enjoyed the alone time because part of the reason I came on this trip was to get away from all the drama in my life back home! But for others, they might get kind of bored or lonely. All in all, I will remember this trip always and glad I had such a great experience!
