This is why we have now decided to offer travel internships where you will be placed directly within our organization, to not only learn the inner workings of a full-service travel business in Jamaica but also to bring in fresh eyes and new energy to help us improve our projects.
There is no other company in Jamaica like Jamaica International Projects, as we are a full-service travel business that operates several brands, all of which are geared towards helping travelers find great trips to Jamaica as hassle-free and efficiently as possible. A travel internships 2019 project with us will grant you experience in the volunteer travel industry, day tours/excursions, vacation booking, and travel medical insurance.

You must be either currently enrolled in a hospitality, tourism management, business, entrepreneurship, or any other course relevant to this position; or be a travel professional to qualify for this internship.
This may be possible, however, you would have to check with your school to see if it can be arranged, and then submit the relevant documents to us in a timely fashion.
Following your acceptance into our travel internship program, your Project Advisor will schedule a call or online meeting with you to discuss the activities and duties you would like to perform on your internship. It is advised that you start thinking about these activities the moment you decide to join this project, to have a better idea of the goals you would like to accomplish.
Some of the areas you can get into include:
- Work with our small team in areas of website/product development, customer support, sales, marketing, operations management, human resources, and other operational procedures
- Gain experience in the travel, hospitality and volunteer travel industries
- Gain course credit/work hours that may apply to your course *your institution would have to approve this
- Suggest and implement upgrades and improvements to our systems, software, and processes to help boost productivity
- Learn about the Jamaican culture, our workforce laws, how to register a business, tax laws, tourism related laws and more
- Visit some of the top attractions and cultural hot spots in Jamaica to see some the island’s top selling points
- Go to a number of hotels in Jamaica to tour their property, learn about how they are managed/operated etc.
These are just some examples. Feel free to discuss any other activities you would like to engage in during your project.
On the first day of your travel internship, you will visit our office, meet the team and settle in. We will show you around the office, give you an orientation and then give you an in-depth overview of our organization. You will receive full training, and be guided along the way.
On the weekends, and some weekdays during your travel internships, you can go on tours and cultural immersion adventures to enjoy yourself while exploring Jamaica’s attractions. You may book some excursions by visiting our tour and adventure webpage.
At the end of your travel internships, you will receive your Travel Internship Certificate, signed by our Managing Director. We will also sign any documents that you need to certify coursework hours completed during your project.
- Appropriate office wear (eg business casual)
- Money to purchase lunch ($3 – $5 USD per day)
- Insect repellent to prevent mosquito and bug bites
- Any supplies or equipment to help you perform your duties
- A camera to take pictures
- Sunscreen if you intend to play in the sun or sunbathe
- A reusable water bottle
- Comfortable shoes
- A laptop, tablet or smartphone to take notes
- Cash for any shopping or excursions
- Water shoes if you plan on swimming
During your travel internship, you will stay with Jomo, the owner of Jamaica International Projects and his family. We have dorm rooms that can house up to 5 people comfortably and is equipped with air conditioning.
Travel internships include full breakfast, lunch, and dinner each day. We will prepare Jamaican cuisine, and we cater to all dietary preferences and restrictions including allergies, vegans, kosher, diabetics and more.
On the first workday of your travel internship, we will give you a full orientation into our company. During orientation, we will go over work dates and times, transportation, meal times, cultural/excursion activities and you will be given tips on Jamaica, before beginning the orientation on office systems and procedures.
Our travel internships include training. Throughout your project we will provide you with training in a wide range of fields, so you are well rounded in the travel industry.
Our travel internships include daily 30-minute training/info sessions on the different aspects of the Jamaican culture. We will cover food, history, traditions, religion, economy, government and more.
You will also receive lessons on how to speak, write and understand Patois (pronounced Pat-Wah), which is our local dialect.
Near the end of each workday, we will engage in a mentorship session where we go over the day’s activities, your feedback on how the day went, any challenges you faced and your plans for the following day, among other things. This is roughly 30 minutes daily.
We pick you up at the airport and transfer you to your accommodation. The airport you should fly into is the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston (KIN). We will meet you at the airport with a sign saying “Jamaica International Projects”. You will be transferred directly from the airport to your accommodation.
Each day, you will be transferred from your accommodation directly to your work site by a team member. We will also pick you up at your work site at the agreed upon time and transfer you either back to the accommodation, to change money/purchase supplies or to a cultural immersion activity/excursion, depending upon your itinerary.
For your tours, you will have a Project Advisor accompanying you to point out important landmarks and to function as a guide. You will be transferred to and from all excursions and outings.
At the conclusion of your travel internship, we will transfer you back to the airport to catch your flight back home.

1 Person – $300
5 or more people – $200 per person
1 Week – $780
2 Weeks – $1,360
3 Weeks – $1,990
4 Weeks – $2,620
Extra Weeks – $550 per week
You can choose between two payment methods for our travel internships:
Credit Card: If your package total is less than $8,000 USD, you may choose to pay with a credit card. All credit card payments will incur a 4% processing fee.
Wire Transfer: If your package is greater than $8,000 USD, you will have to pay via wire transfer. This method of payment will also incur a processing fee that you will be responsible to cover, which may vary depending on your bank of choice.
Once you have decided to join our travel internships, proceed to the booking form, enter the relevant info, select your preferred payment option (30% deposit or full payment) and submit. After submission, you’ll be sent a list of documents to be submitted, payment instructions and a link to the internship application form.

Note: By submitting the booking form you will NOT be making a binding commitment to join the project.
We will review your booking and application within 24 hours and reach out to you via your preferred means of contact. You will get to discuss your goals, skills and ask us questions. This is where you will learn of your acceptance into the program.
If you are accepted into our travel internships, your documents will then become due for submission so that we can fully arrange your placement. These Include:
- A copy of your CV/Resume
- 2 Reference letters (1 personal, 1 professional)
- 1 recent photo id (passport, national id, school id or driver’s license)
- 1 police report/criminal background check
- Proof of travel insurance (get your travel health insurance here)
- Flight itinerary
- Completed internship application form
You will then be notified to clear up all outstanding fees and balances (if you made a 30% deposit or made any additional changes to your package).
