Overview

Take your students out of the classroom and into the real world by exploring and learning about Jamaica on our study abroad high school programs. There are many aspects of Jamaica that will have your students educated and entertained, such as our culture, Reggae music, our history, language, national monuments, our food and more.

As Jamaica’s top volunteer organization, we also incorporate volunteer and service learning aspects to our projects as well, so your students can give back, complete a project and complete volunteer service hours, all at the same time. For example, if your group is studying beach erosion, we could arrange a beach research and cleanup exercise at the Hellshire beach that can be conducted by your students. This is just one example, as the possibilities are endless.

Group Leaders/Chaperone

Your group is required to provide 1 chaperone/adult for every 10 students in your high school study abroad program. We provide full support to group leaders, by providing crucial services such as:

  • We give group leaders and chaperones discounts, and in some cases, they may be able to join for free
  • All study abroad high school placement fees are eliminated for leaders
  • We offer specialized support services such as making birthday preparations for your students, lending a local cell phone for emergencies and fast communication, giving complementary refreshments on outings, arranging supermarket stops and more
  • We will attempt to fulfill any special arrangement and requests that you have, such as meeting local experts, visiting special restaurants/attractions, getting special equipment such as projectors whiteboards and much more.

Study Abroad High School Curriculum

Each of our study abroad high school programs includes full pre-arrival support and planning. This means that we work with the organizers of your trip to brainstorm activities, prepare quotes and proposals, suggest adventures, liaise with local partners and much more. We handle all the heavy lifting, so all you have to do is recruit your students and leave the rest to us.

Study Abroad For High School Students Activities

  • Visit local museums to learn about music, arts, the economy and more
  • Embark on educational field trips such as learning how rum and sugar are made, coffee plantations, Rastafarian villages and more
  • Step into our past by touring modern day plantations, haunted houses, and national landmarks
  • Go on walking tours of historic cities and towns such as Falmouth, Spanish Town, and Kingston
  • Learn about Jamaican food, dances, and our language Patois
  • Engage in thrilling adventures such as zip lining, swimming with dolphins, horseback riding and more
  • Go to children homes, schools, charities, and low-income communities to do volunteer work such as painting, cleaning, construction and more.

These are just a few examples. We work with group leaders to customize a package that is just right for your students, and the goal of your project.

Reviews

  • “

We volunteered by painting the girl’s dorms at Jamaica National Children’s Home. It was the most wonderful experience as we really got to know the girls and their personalities. I really enjoyed spending time with the children and playing with them. It truly was an amazing experience. The excursions really immersed us in the culture of Jamaica. The food and accommodation were lovely and gave us an authentic experience of Jamaica.

WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE. This was a life changing experience. The children were so great. They gave me and taught me so much more than I gave them. This was one of the most satisfying trips I’ve ever done. Jomo, his mother and Dwayne were great hosts and caretakers. Jamaica and its people will forever be in my heart.

Unforgettable experience! All of you should try it. It was only my first-time volunteering and I’d love to do it again through the same Jamaica International Projects.
