No experience is needed to join our teaching German abroad project, however, if you do have experience and qualifications for teaching then you may qualify for an advanced placement.
- Anyone who can fluently speak, read and write German
- Natives of Germany who can share their culture
- German teachers either currently practicing, retired or in training
- Students, teens and young adults who would like to teach children the German language
- Couples and families, with at least 1 member able to teach German
- Corporate groups with employees fluent in German
- Business owners with an interest in education, or those interested in sharing their talents
- Mature volunteers
We encourage all volunteers to properly plan for their teach German abroad project, to ensure they get the most out of their experience, and that you can make the biggest impact possible. After you have been accepted into the project we can set up an online meeting to brainstorm the activities you would like to do as you teach German as a foreign language.
Some examples of teaching activities include:
- Teach German to children and adults of all ages at schools and in communities
- Share interesting aspects of German culture such as songs, games, folklore, dances, etc.
- Learn about the Jamaican culture by visiting our top attractions and excursions to explore the island’s beaches, caves, waterfalls, coffee, food, Reggae music, and much more
- Do short presentations to students showing German traditional garments, beer, and food
- Tell stories about German culture and your experiences
- Introduce the class to German greetings, salutations, numbers, the alphabet, etc.
- Teach students how to write, speak and read the German language fluently
- Learn how to speak Patois, which is our Jamaican dialect
These are just some examples. Feel free to discuss any other activities you would like to engage in during your project.
On the first day of your teach German as a foreign language project you will be accompanied to your work site by your Project Advisor. You will receive a tour of the grounds, meet other teachers and students, get settled in and receive orientation. You will also be assigned a supervisor and learn where you will get daily lunch.
On some afternoons after your volunteer work is completed, as well as on weekends, you can join one of our tour and cultural adventure packages to have some fun and experience some of the best attractions in Jamaica. We always encourage our volunteers to work hard and play hard as well while they teach German abroad.
Once you have completed your teaching German abroad volunteer projects, you will receive your Volunteer Certificate. We will also sign any documents that you need to prove community service or volunteer hours completed.
To spice up your program we suggest that you take along some items or pictures/videos to showcase the German culture to the students. These could include food items, music, board games, clothing, signs etc. This will no doubt give you a chance to better bond with the students while spicing up your lessons.
It is a good idea for all volunteers to do some form of fundraising back home to help collect cash and items to help you fund your teach German language project, as well as to get supplies to help with your lessons. These include markers, pens, pencils, crayons, stickers and more.
We will provide you with a list of recommended resources before you arrive so that you can begin gathering them as soon as possible.

Our teaching German abroad projects include full breakfast and dinner each day. We cater to volunteers with special dietary requirements such as diabetes, allergies, vegans and more.
After you pay the processing fee to join this project, you will be able to create your account on our website and enroll in our digital culture classes, even before you arrive. This course includes several videos, worksheets, and learning materials where you learn all about Jamaica’s culture, and cover topics such as our food, government, history, traditions, norms, religion, and more.
As a part of your teaching German abroad jamaica package, you will also get access to our online course to learn how to speak, write and understand Patois (pronounced Pat-Wah), which is our local dialect.
All volunteers who teach German in Jamaica will receive orientation and support documents on your first day. During orientation, we go over volunteer days and times, meal times, accommodation rules, transportation and much more. We will also give you tips on life in Jamaica.
We also provide daily mentorship sessions for teenagers or a general review of your day’s activities for more experienced volunteers. You are free to discuss the challenges you faced that day, the activities and lessons you completed with your students, your plans for the following day, and ask any questions you may have. These sessions last between 15-30 minutes and will be done either in person, online or by phone.
We will pick you up at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston (KIN) or Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay (MBJ). Our driver will have a sign saying “Jamaica International Projects”, and you will be transferred directly from the airport to your accommodation.
As part of your teaching German overseas project, we will transfer you to and from both your accommodation and your volunteer site.
A Project Advisor will accompany you on all tours and outings to function as your guide. Your teach German abroad project includes transfers for all tours and cultural adventures that your purchase.
At the conclusion of your teaching German abroad project, we will take you back to the airport so you can catch your flight back home.

You can choose between 2 payment methods to secure your teach German language trip:
Credit Card: If your package total is less than $8,000 USD, you may choose to pay with a credit card. All credit card payments will incur a 5% processing fee.
Wire Transfer: If your package is greater than $8,000 USD, you will have to pay via wire transfer. You are required to pay the international wire transfer fee for this payment method.
Once you have decided to join our teach German overseas project, complete the inquiry form or contact us to let us know that you are interested in joining. We will then send you the volunteer application form for the volunteer format that you selected (online, placement only, or full volunteer project).

We will review your application and get to you within 24 hours to let you know if you have been accepted into the program. Either before or after you apply, you can visit our calendar and schedule an online meeting where we can discuss your goals, the areas you are interested in teaching, and ask us questions.
Once you are accepted into our teaching German abroad jamaica project, you will be required to submit your documents as soon as possible These include:
- 2 Reference letters (1 personal, 1 professional)
- 1 recent photo id (passport, national id, school id, or driver’s license)
- 1 police report/criminal background check
- Completed volunteer application form
- Proof of qualification to teach (if you are seeking a placement as a qualified teacher)
- Proof of travel insurance (You can purchase affordable IMG travel medical insurance here) *not needed for online projects
- Flight itinerary *not needed for online projects
