Jamaica International Projects is a family run business headquartered in St. Catherine, Jamaica owned and operated by Jomo Barnett along with his mother Meleta Barnett. We arrange programs for persons seeking to travel to Jamaica to engage in meaningful volunteer, internship and study abroad projects, while truly immersing themselves into the Jamaican culture and way of life.
Jamaica International Projects’ mission is to assist volunteers, students, missionaries, corporations, travel agents and other travelers with organizing structured, safe and meaningful projects in Jamaica to promote cultural awareness.
Our Vision is to help craft a better future for Jamaica by providing the necessary resources for the sustainable development of our economy and communities. We will be the world’s foremost solution for travellers who are seeking to travel to Jamaica to give back, learn, intern or experience our culture.
We arrange unique and fully customizable projects for a wide range of travelers from all over the world. These include volunteers, interns, gap year takers, clubs, corporations and anyone in between. We offer programs all across the 14 parishes of Jamaica along with beautiful accommodation options where our visitors can relax, unwind and experience Jamaican culture after a long day of volunteering.
Our combined years of experience in the hospitality and volunteer travel industry has equipped us with the experience, knowledge and skills to assist and guide our clients with creating the perfect itinerary to accomplish all their goals in Jamaica.
Jomo is a certified chef, content writer and travel expert with many years experience in each field. He is very hands-on when it comes to his company. His duties include managing and maintaining the website, writing and approving content, customer relations and handling tours and projects.
Jomo started Jamaica International Projects after working for a volunteer organization where he met many travelers passionate about enhancing and uplifting Jamaica through their volunteering efforts. Unfortunately, their goals were not being achieved at that company, so seeing the dedication, demand and wanting better for the country himself that made him decide to resign his job and start an organization of his own that is actually made to assist volunteers. The rest, as they say, is history.
As a wife and mother of 4, Meleta, or Miss B as she is affectionately called is the embodiment of kindness and passion. Her duties and responsibilities include managing the daily operations of the office, responding to applications and emails from clients, making client placements and reservations at projects, arranging airport and projects transfers and overseeing kitchen and housekeeping staff.
Having ran several self-started businesses in the past, she has decided to join our team to put her office management skills and expertise to good use. When she isn’t busy with the aforementioned tasks, she likes reading and tending to her beautiful garden. Just ask her a question about gardening or anything plant related, her knowledge is endless.
