1 Day Volunteer Programs

If you are looking to spend a few hours out of a day to volunteer and give back to the less fortunate, then our 1 Day Volunteer Programs are perfect for you. This program was made specifically for the volunteer who would like to give back and make a difference in a short space of time.

What To Expect

On the day of your project, we will pick you up at your hotel or cruise ship port and transfer you to your volunteer site either in Kingston or Montego Bay, whichever is closest. Some projects may be available in other locations that would be closer, however, if this applies we will advise you of this during booking.

When you arrive at your volunteer location you will be given an orientation on the project, meet with the local team you will be working with and settle in to begin the day’s activities. You will also find out the lunch arrangements for the day.

Once you have completed a day’s volunteer work, we will either transfer you back to the accommodation or cruise port we picked you up from, or take you to other scheduled activities and excursions (if you had purchased any).

Requirements for Our 1 Day Volunteer Projects in Jamaica

What do you need to join the ranks of other JIP volunteers?

Once you have applied and paid your enrollment fee, there are a few documents we’ll ask you to share with us:

  • 2 Reference letters (1 personal, 1 professional)
  • 1 recent photo ID (passport, national ID, school ID, or driver’s license)
  • Proof of travel insurance (if you do not have insurance you can purchase it here)
  • Completed 1 day volunteer in Jamaica application
  • Proof of qualifications if you have any

Note: Only the leader/1 adult in your group is required to submit these documents. Some projects may require additional information from each member.

Email these to your Project Advisor during the enrollment process, or you can submit them during your application.

When you are ready to enroll in our volunteer abroad with children in Jamaica, you can begin our simple enrollment process. Our team is always just a quick call or message away. Follow these steps to start planning and preparing for the volunteer experience of a lifetime.

Research & Get the Facts

Step 1: Research

Read through this page and what is included in our 1 day volunteer project and decide if this project is a right fit for you. Consider the costs involved, project timeframe, the requirements, your availability and what you are able to do.

Step 2: Learn about us

Feel free to learn more about us and what we stand for. Read about us, check out our reviews, download our volunteer brochure, or read through our FAQ.

Step 3: Connect with a Project Advisor

Reach out to us to connect with a Project Advisor who will guide you through the enrollment process, answer any questions you have, help you set your goals and itinerary, and meet with you and your parents or guardians to provide more information about the volunteer at an orphanage abroad program in Jamaica.

Admissions & Getting Started

Step 1: Apply

Complete the application form. By applying you won’t be making a commitment or locking yourself into the project, so you are free to explore other options and compare our projects with other volunteer organizations. Instead, your application will help us better advise you, plan your itinerary and customize a project for you. We review and respond to applications within 48 hours.

Step 2: Meet us

Schedule a virtual meeting with us. If you are under 18, you are required to have a parent or guardian present. Meetings are done on Zoom, Google Meets, or via phone call.

Step 3: Review the 1 day volunteer project enrollment fee

Review the offer email, which includes the cost, sample itinerary, what is included, and what you need to submit.

Step 4: Secure your 1 day volunteer project in Jamaica placement

Pay the Enrollment Fee based on the package you select and the amount of volunteers in your group.

Step 5: Start submitting documents

Only 1 member of your group is required to submit documents, unless we specifically advise otherwise. The documents you should submit include:

  • 2 Reference letters (1 personal, 1 professional)
  • 1 recent photo ID (passport, national ID, school ID, or driver’s license)
  • Proof of travel insurance
  • Completed 1 day application form
  • Proof of qualifications (if you are certified or have experience in a specific field)

Pre-Arrival Prep & Getting Ready To Go

Step 1: Onboarding call

Within a month of the start date of your project, we will host a 30-minute onboarding call on Zoom or Google Meets with you. This includes an official welcome, tips and guides, and virtual orientation. You will get access to our language, culture, and our travel safety and security course online that you can complete at your own pace (if you purchased the plan with these included).

Step 2: Ensure you are travel ready

Check your passport to ensure it will not expire during your trip, research if you need a visa to stay in your host country, obtain a travel medical insurance plan that covers you during your 1 day volunteer experience, and book your flights.

Step 3: Finalize your enrollment

Confirm that your fee is paid, and submit all required documents.

There is no restriction on the nationalities that can participate in our 1 day volunteer opportunities.

Yes! Read our reviews to see what our past volunteers and interns have to say about us, and during the enrollment process, you can request to connect with a past volunteer/intern.

You must be 16 years old or older to enroll on your own. If you are younger than 16, you will have to enroll with a parent or guardian. For a full list of requirements check out this list. Jamaica is an English-speaking country, so you should be able to read, write and speak English (you don’t need to be fluent).

No experience or qualifications are required, just a willingness to do a great job and have lots of fun. We encourage you to share any dietary needs or any special accommodations needed for your participation. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions about choosing the right program for you.

Beyond the program tuition and enrollment fee, consider these additional costs to ensure a smooth and worry-free financial experience:

  • Travel: This includes flights and any in-country transportation needs you might incur back in your home country.
  • Project Transfer: You should budget for round trip transportation between your accommodation and volunteer site.
  • Extra Adventures: Factor in costs for optional tours, excursions, and additional meals if desired.
  • Essentials: Remember travel medical insurance is required. You may also have to pay a visa fee to visit Jamaica depending on your nationality. We recommend budgeting for gratuities as well.

We accept payments by credit or debit card with our secure payment gateway.

Absolutely! Everything is better with friends. You can join with a parent, friend, sibling, or spouse and share a room (based on availability).

Yes! We take your safety and security seriously. Some steps we take to keep you safe during your trip include:

  • Vetted project sites
  • A detailed course on safety in Jamaica
  • Professional and licensed drivers take you to and from projects and destinations daily (if transfer is booked with us)
  • All employees do background checks

Follow this link for more information on how we keep you safe.

Girlguiding Leader / Volunteer Vacation

My whole experience in Jamaica has been amazing.

Working in the home and seeing the bedrooms, bathrooms, and corridor of the girl’s part being made to look more decorative and seeing the girls smiles when asked if they liked it. The hotel was perfect, it is by the sea. Lovely friendly, helpful staff and the caterers who came in were wonderful. They catered for all of us. We tried a lot of different Jamaican dishes and they were wonderful and took requests.

Lifetime Memories

Unforgettable experience! All of you should try it. It was only my first-time volunteering and I’d love to do it again through the same Jamaica International Projects.

A fantastic experience with memories that I will share back home and that will stay with me forever

We have had an amazing two weeks in Jamaica. It has been a full programme and a good mix of volunteering at the children’s home, plus visiting different attractions around the island. At the children’s home, I spent most of my time decorating which was hot and sweaty work, but it was very satisfying to see and hear the difference we had made. Our sightseeing days were long and busy days, but there was so much to see and do – from climbing waterfalls to swimming in the sea to visiting a plantation. Food and hotel have been good and everyone has been friendly and welcoming. Thanks for the great experience.
