For short-term and Placement Only projects, we can arrange volunteer opportunities in any area of Jamaica depending on the project type, availability, and needs of the participating organization. Full projects will be done either in Kingston or St. Catherine.
This project is designed for families who want more from a vacation than sightseeing alone. It is suitable for parents traveling with children or teenagers, adult siblings, multigenerational families, couples traveling with relatives, and extended family groups.
No previous volunteer experience is required for most family volunteering activities. We will match your family with suitable tasks based on the age, comfort level, interests, and abilities of each participant.
Some advanced or professional activities require relevant qualifications or experience. For example, a doctor, nurse, teacher, counselor, tradesperson, or other qualified professional may be able to complete skilled tasks that would not be assigned to an unqualified participant.
Children and teenagers will only be assigned activities that are appropriate for their age and the rules of the host organization.

On the first day of your project, your Project Advisor will accompany your family to the volunteer site. You will meet the local team, tour the facility, receive an orientation, review your planned activities, and learn the expectations for the placement.
For families with younger volunteers, we will make sure both parents and children understand what they will be doing, who they will be working with, and how the daily schedule will operate.
Your time in Jamaica does not have to be all work. Depending on your volunteer schedule, your family can use afternoons and weekends to relax, explore, or book optional tours and adventures.
You may choose to visit beaches, waterfalls, museums, cultural attractions, local restaurants, markets, historical sites, or adventure attractions. Full Experience projects also include cultural and social activities during the week.

At the end of your project, eligible participants will receive volunteer certificates signed by Jamaica International Projects. We can also sign school, service-learning, community service, or volunteer-hour verification documents when the completed hours can be verified.
Your family will leave Jamaica with more than photographs. You will have shared a project, learned together, met people outside your normal environment, and experienced the country from a local perspective.
If your placement needs supplies, we will provide guidance before you travel so your family can bring useful items rather than guessing what is needed.
Depending on the project, useful resources may include educational supplies, books, craft materials, sports equipment, clothing, hygiene products, toys, tools, or other requested items.
Families may also choose to organize a fundraising or donation campaign before traveling. This can be a great way to involve children in the project before the trip even begins.
