Our public health volunteer abroad program places you directly into that prevention work. You support community health screenings, health education campaigns, and outreach initiatives — contributing to the upstream work that keeps people out of the clinic in the first place, not just treating them once they’re already there.
For 1-day or placement-only projects, placements are available with community health initiatives in Montego Bay, Falmouth, Kingston, and St. Catherine. Full project placements are offered in Kingston and St. Catherine only.
This program is designed for public health, epidemiology, nursing, and pre-med students, as well as anyone with a genuine interest in community-level health work. No clinical qualification is required for most placements; advanced roles involving direct screening or testing require relevant training, confirmed during application.

The minimum age to enroll independently is 16 years old. Participants under 18 must have a parent or guardian involved in their enrollment. You do not need clinical qualifications for most placements; roles involving direct screening or testing require relevant training, confirmed during application. Community health outreach abroad often means going to where people already are — churches, schools, community centers, market days — rather than waiting for them to come to a clinic. That outreach model reaches people who might otherwise never engage with preventive health services at all.
Your Project Advisor accompanies you to your volunteer site on day one. You will get a tour of the property, meet your team members, receive a brief project orientation, and learn where to get lunch.
On afternoons and weekends without planned volunteer work, our partner tour company offers excursions across the island, including museums and visits to indigenous communities, to round out your experience.
You receive an official Volunteer Certificate signed by our Managing Director confirming your placement, your project, and your hours. If you have documents that verify your volunteer or service hours — including for academic applications — we are happy to sign those as well.
We strongly encourage volunteers to fundraise back home for resources to donate to their host initiative — educational materials, basic screening supplies, and outreach materials are often in short supply. We will send you a list of needed resources for your specific placement once confirmed.

Within a month of your start date, we host a 30-minute onboarding call covering an official welcome, tips, and virtual orientation, plus access to our Patois, Jamaican culture, and travel safety courses online.
Check your passport’s expiry, research visa requirements, obtain travel medical insurance, and book your flights into Kingston.

Our Medical Volunteer Abroad program is clinic-based, direct patient care under a supervising doctor. This program is community-level prevention and education work — screenings, health campaigns, and outreach — that happens outside the clinic walls, reaching people before they need treatment. Many volunteers find this a better fit if they’re drawn to public health, epidemiology, or health education specifically.
