Spend one to two weeks eating, cooking, and exploring your way across Jamaica on our Jamaican food tour — a guided culinary vacation built around the island’s rum, coffee, jerk, seafood, and farm-to-table traditions. From rum estate tastings to fishing village seafood feasts, this is Jamaica experienced through its food.
Jamaica’s food culture is as layered as its history — jerk seasoning that traces back to the Maroons, curry traditions brought by Indian indentured laborers, ital cooking rooted in Rastafarian philosophy, rum distilling dating to the 1700s, and Blue Mountain coffee considered among the finest in the world. Most visitors taste a fraction of this in a single resort meal. Our Jamaican food tour is built to go deeper.
This is a fully guided, fully escorted Jamaican food tour — not a list of restaurant recommendations. A dedicated local guide travels with your group every day, your accommodation, transportation, and entrance fees are arranged in advance, and your itinerary is built around the island’s most respected culinary sites: rum estates, coffee plantations, seafood villages, working farms, and the kind of roadside food stops that never make it into a hotel concierge’s recommendations.
Most Jamaican food experiences on offer are single half-day or full-day tours. Our program is structured as a genuine Jamaica food vacation — one to two full weeks immersed in the island’s culinary landscape, with daily excursions, a consistent local guide, and the comfort of returning each evening to the same accommodation rather than living out of a suitcase.
Jamaica has plenty of food tours. Very few are structured as a full, multi-day program with one consistent guide, one home base, and a thoughtfully sequenced itinerary. Here is what sets ours apart:
Your Jamaican food tour begins with pickup from the airport in Kingston, with transfer to Barnett’s Homestay in Portmore, St. Catherine. From there, daily excursions reach across the island — the Blue Mountains, St. Elizabeth, Ocho Rios, and the south coast — with your guide and transportation handling every leg of the journey.
This tour suits travelers of any age who want a genuine, hands-on introduction to Jamaican food and culture — families, friend groups, food-focused travelers, culinary students, and corporate or community groups looking for a shared experience. Children are welcome on the full itinerary; please note that rum tastings at estates such as Appleton are restricted to guests 18 and older by the venues themselves, not by us.
A true Jamaican culinary tour goes beyond eating — it includes the production side of food and drink. That is why this itinerary includes a working rum distillery, a Blue Mountain coffee plantation, a working farm with a live cooking demonstration, and a grocery store visit where you shop for Jamaican ingredients alongside locals. You leave understanding not just what Jamaican food tastes like, but how and why it is made the way it is.
This is a sample. Tours, project days, and the overall trip duration can all be customized to your group’s interests.
We pick you up at the airport in Kingston and transfer you to your accommodation at Barnett’s Homestay. Settle in and enjoy your welcome dinner with your host family.
Start with a guided introduction to Jamaican culture and a Patois language class, then roll up your sleeves for a hands-on Jamaican cooking class with a local instructor.
Travel into the Blue Mountains for a guided tour and tasting at the Craighton Coffee Estate, then head to Kingston’s historic Devon House for a tour of the mansion and a stop at its famous ice cream parlor.
Sample Jamaica’s beloved fast food spots — patties, festival, and more — then visit a local grocery store to see and shop for the ingredients behind everyday Jamaican cooking.
Tour Jamaica’s oldest rum distillery at Appleton Estate, complete with tastings, then head to the south coast for a fresh seafood feast at the legendary Little Ochi.
Explore Croydon Plantation, then visit Zimbali Retreats for a working farm tour and a live cooking demonstration using ingredients grown right there.
Enjoy a final Jamaican breakfast with your host family before transfer back to the airport for your departure flight.
For travelers who want the fullest possible Jamaica culinary vacation, we extend the program with a second week of additional food and culture excursions. Days 1 through 7 follow the itinerary above. Here is how the second week builds on it:
Just minutes from Barnett’s Homestay, Hellshire is one of Jamaica’s most famous fried fish and festival destinations. Spend the afternoon at Fort Clarence Beach afterward.
Tour the factory behind Jamaica’s most famous condiment, then visit a working cassava farm to see how bammy — a Jamaican staple — is made from root to plate.
Visit a Rastafarian community for a guided lesson on herbs, spices, and Ital cooking philosophy, followed by a hands-on Ital meal preparation.
Travel to a Maroon community to learn their history and customs, with a traditional Maroon meal prepared using techniques passed down for generations.
Visit one of Jamaica’s legendary jerk centers for a true taste of the island’s most famous cooking style, then tour the Bob Marley Museum in the afternoon.
Tour the factory behind Jamaica’s famous rum cakes, with samples included, then enjoy a free afternoon at the beach to relax before your final day.
A final Jamaican breakfast with your host family, then transfer back to the airport for your departure flight.
Tours, project days, and the trip duration can all be customized. The following is included as standard:
Enhance your group’s trip with any of the following add-ons:
A Jamaican cuisine tour at this depth suits travelers who want more than a beach vacation — food enthusiasts, culinary students, family groups looking for a shared adventure, and anyone who believes that understanding a place starts with understanding what people there eat and why. No culinary background or cooking experience is required to enjoy any part of this itinerary.
Expect jerk chicken and pork, curry goat, ackee and saltfish, rice and peas, festival, fried fish, fresh tropical fruit, Blue Mountain coffee, Appleton rum, and farm-fresh produce straight from the source. Vegetarian, vegan, and other dietary requirements are accommodated with advance notice — just let us know during booking.

Our primary accommodation is Barnett’s Homestay, located in the quiet community of Portmore, St. Catherine. You will stay with Jomo Barnett, the Director of Jamaica International Projects, and his family during your project. This is your chance to live with a Jamaican family and learn our culture.
Here is the structure and support in place from arrival to departure:
Booking is straightforward. Our team responds to every inquiry within 48 hours, and most groups are confirmed and ready to travel within a few weeks of their first contact with us.
Read this page carefully. Decide whether the 1-week or 2-week itinerary fits your group, and note any optional services — a Rastafarian village visit, a Maroon village visit, daily meals — you want to add.
Read about Jamaica International Projects, browse reviews from past travelers, and check our FAQ to understand how we operate.
Identify how many travelers are in your group and your preferred travel window. Larger groups may qualify for a discounted rate.
Reach out to our team and we will pair you with a Trip Coordinator who will review your group’s interests, customize your itinerary, and walk you through booking from start to finish.
Tell us your group size, preferred dates, and any specific interests — jerk, rum, coffee, seafood, or all of the above. We respond within 48 hours.
Schedule a virtual meeting with your Trip Coordinator via Zoom, Google Meet, or phone to finalize your itinerary, optional add-ons, and trip duration.
After your meeting, you receive a personalized quote with your total cost, your day-by-day itinerary, and everything that is included.
Pay your deposit to lock in your travel dates and confirm your accommodation and guide.
Provide the following ahead of travel:
About a month before travel, we hold a call to walk through your finalized itinerary, answer questions, and confirm any last-minute changes.
Confirm your passport is valid for your full trip, check visa requirements for your nationality, and book your flights into Kingston.
Pack your bags, bring your appetite, and get ready for one of the most flavorful weeks of your life.
Yes. The itinerary is family-friendly throughout. The only restriction is on rum tastings at estates such as Appleton, which require guests to be 18 or older — a rule set by the venues themselves, not by us. Children can still tour the distillery and enjoy the rest of the visit.
Yes. Tours, project days, and trip duration can all be adjusted. If your group has specific culinary interests — more seafood, more rum, a deep dive into jerk — tell your Trip Coordinator and we will reshape the itinerary accordingly.
Both. While the itinerary is designed to scale well for groups, solo travelers and couples are welcome. Group discounts apply for parties of 6 or more, but smaller groups and individuals are accommodated at the standard per-person rate.
You stay at Barnett’s Homestay in Portmore, St. Catherine — a real Jamaican family home offering air-conditioned rooms, hot showers, Wi-Fi, and the experience of living alongside a local family for the duration of your trip, rather than a standard hotel stay.
Yes. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other dietary requirements can be accommodated with advance notice. Let us know during booking so your itinerary and any included meals can be adjusted accordingly.
We strongly recommend it, and it is available as an optional add-on during booking. It is not automatically included in the base price.
Flights, daily meals beyond what is specified in your itinerary, travel medical insurance, personal spending money, alcoholic beverages beyond included tastings, and gratuities are all outside the base price. A full breakdown is included in your personalized quote.
Yes. Both are offered as optional services on the 1-week itinerary and are built into the standard 2-week itinerary. Let your Trip Coordinator know if you would like either added to a shorter trip.
