So you find yourself in Jamaica and are thinking to join a volunteer orphanage Jamaica experience for a day. You are definitely in the right place, as we would love to help you arrange an impactful day of volunteering with children. Escape your hotel or guest house for the day and let our expert Project Advisors guide you to a unique experience that only a select few enjoy in their lives.
Jamaica has two faces – the much more famous side known for stunning beaches, soothing reggae music, breathtaking landmarks, and our warm climate, among other things. The lesser-known side consists of many Jamaicans living in less than ideal circumstances, with the cost of living being at an all-time high.
As a result, many families are either unwilling or unable to properly care for their own children, who are then forced to live in children homes or ‘orphanages’. And just like Jamaica as a country, the children homes in Jamaica are home to a multitude of minors of varying ages and backgrounds. Not only do they house kids whose families can’t care for them, but they also accommodate those that are orphaned, as well as children who suffer from behavioral issues.
By joining this volunteer orphanage Jamaica project you probably won’t solve all the problems of the children, but you will definitely spend a day meaningfully while you get an insight into the Jamaican culture and make some new friends along the way.
Your volunteer orphanage Jamaica Project Advisor will meet you at your hotel/guest house, and after introductions, you will be transferred to the children home in either Kingston or Montego Bay (you will go to the home closest to your accommodation location, and this will be confirmed during booking).
When you arrive at the children home, you will be introduced to the local staff, shown around the property and introduced to the children. Once you are settled in you can begin your volunteer abroad in orphanage tasks, until lunchtime when you can take a break and enjoy a meal. This will either be provided on-site, or we will transfer you to a restaurant or food store nearby (cost included).
After lunch, you will continue volunteering until you complete your tasks for the day. At the end of the day, you can hand off any supplies and donations you brought with you and say goodbye to the children and the staff. We will then provide you with your volunteer certificate for successfully completing your volunteer project.
You will then be transferred back to your accommodation, to make any pre-scheduled stops along the way or off to another excursion (if you selected this option).
Some ideas of what you could do on your volunteer abroad in orphanage 1-day trip include:
These are just some examples. Feel free to discuss any other activities you would like to engage in during your project.
No academic qualification needed
We recommend you take along the following items with you:
Transfer from your accommodation to the children home nearest to your accommodation.
Settle in, get introduced to the staff and kids and tour the property. Start doing the volunteer orphanage Jamaica activities you had planned before your arrival.
Stop for lunch. Have it either delivered to you at the home or get transferred to a food joint nearby to eat.
Continue volunteering or get transferred to other planned activities such as beach outings or other cultural immersion excursions.
You will be transferred back to your accommodation after a fulfilling and adventurous day

This was a life changing experience. The children were so great. They gave me and taught me so much more than I gave them. This was one of the most satisfying trips I’ve ever done. Jomo, his mother, and Dwayne were great hosts and caretakers. Jamaica and its people will forever be in my heart.
During my time in Jamaica with Jamaica International Projects, I have had a very enjoyable time. The volunteering gave me a fantastic experience that I will never forget. The excursions we were able to do gave us an authentic vision and experience in Jamaica. The food was amazing and nobody ever went away hungry, and whenever we needed to buy lunch we were always given plenty of options for food. The accommodation was very good and the staff at the hotel very useful. Jomo Barnett was an amazing guide and support during our time in Jamaica.
We volunteered by painting the girl’s dorms at Jamaica National Children’s Home. It was the most wonderful experience as we really got to know the girls and their personalities. I really enjoyed spending time with the children and playing with them. It truly was an amazing experience. The excursions really immersed us in the culture of Jamaica. The food and accommodation were lovely and gave us an authentic experience of Jamaica.
