Are you able to speak and write Italian fluently? Thinking of traveling to teach Italian abroad and volunteering your time and knowledge? If you are, join us in Jamaica to teach Italian as a foreign language to students and adults. It does not matter if you are an Italian, or you are of another nationality but know the language well. As long as you are able to teach others how to speak and write Italian, you are qualified to join this program.
Imagine volunteering in the warm tropical island of Jamaica. From your very first day, you will be thrust into our culture. You will interact with locals and hear our vibrant dialect known as Patois. Hear it all around you, a mixture of Patois and Standard English that will authenticate your Jamaican immersion.
You will also meet many Jamaicans as you go into schools and communities to teach the Italian language. Perhaps the greatest feature of Jamaica is the warm and friendly people. Embrace the unique island culture as you work with Jamaicans of all ages while building your skills and gaining experience as an Italian teacher.
Most public schools cannot afford to pay foreign language teachers, so your contribution will make a huge impact by teaching Jamaicans a new language and culture. So if this is the type of project you are seeking, apply now to begin booking your trip to Jamaican with us today.
No qualifications or prior experience is needed to teach Italian abroad in Jamaica, however, volunteers who do possess them may be able to do more advanced placements.
We advise proper planning before you teach Italian as a foreign language. From the moment you are accepted into this project, you should start to plan the activities and lessons you would like to use to help your students learn. You may schedule a call with your Project Advisor to brainstorm ideas.
Some examples of teaching activities include:
These are just some examples. Feel free to discuss any other activities you would like to engage in during your project.
On the first day when you begin to teach the Italian language abroad, you will be accompanied to the school by your Project Advisor. You will get a tour of the school grounds, meet with the other teachers, get introduced to your students and make lunch arrangements. A quick project orientation will be given, and you will be assigned your project supervisor.
You can purchase a tour and cultural immersion adventure package for some weekends and some weekdays after school to experience some of Jamaica’s top attractions and cultural activities. This is an excellent method to inject fun in your teach Italian as a foreign language project.
Once your volunteer to teach Italian overseas project has been completed, you will receive your volunteer Certificate. We will also sign and documents you have to certify the volunteer hours you completed.
We advise all volunteers to do some fundraising back home to collect cash and donations that you could give to the students at your project. As you teach the Italian language abroad, you can give the students needed supplies such as pencils, notebooks, crayon, markets and more.
We will send you a list of needed resources for the school you are placed in, as well as some suggested items that are always in demand.
When you volunteer to teach Italian abroad, you can stay at this option with Jomo, the owner of Jamaica International Projects and his family. Dorm settings for up to 5 people with air conditioning
You can also choose to stay at this 3-star hotel while receiving our full support.
Your teach Italian as a foreign language package includes daily breakfast and dinner. We cater to volunteers with special dietary requirements such as diabetes, allergies, vegans and more.
Each day as you teach Italian abroad we will be teaching you about the Jamaican culture. Each session lasts about 30 minutes, and we will cover topics such as food, government, history, traditions, norms, religion and more.
All volunteers joining this project will receive orientation and support documentation on your date of arrival. Once you are settled into your accommodation, you will be given your finalized itinerary and your orientation guide. During orientation, we will go over project dates and times, transportation, meal times, cultural/excursion activities and you will be given tips on Jamaica.
As a part of your teach children Italian language abroad package, you also get Jamaican Patois classes, where you will learn how to speak, write and understand Patois (pronounced Pat-Wah), which is our local dialect.
We also provide daily mentorship sessions for teenagers or a general review of your day’s activities for more experienced volunteers. You are free to discuss the challenges you faced that day, the activities and lessons you completed with your students, your plans for the following day and ask any questions you may have. This is roughly 30 minutes daily.
We provide you with airport pickup at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston (KIN). We will meet you at the airport with a sign saying Jamaica International Projects. You will be transferred directly from the airport to your accommodation.
Each day, you will be transferred from your accommodation directly to your teach Italian overseas volunteer project by a team member. We will also pick you up at your project at the agreed upon time and transfer you either back to the accommodation, to change money/purchase supplies or to a cultural immersion activity/excursion, depending upon your itinerary.
For your tours, you will have a Project Advisor accompanying you to point out important landmarks and to function as a guide. You will be transferred to and from all excursions and outings.

I spent (only) 5 days at Reliance Basic School at Braeton and I can say it was one of the best experiences in my whole life. I was there as an Italian/English teacher but mostly I helped the teacher out with the program. The whole staff was very kind and supportive of me and the children were simply amazing. They called me Uncle David and they were so cute. I honestly think that five days were not enough but unfortunately, I couldn’t stay longer.
I definitely recommend this volunteering program to anybody who wants to have a great experience in a real Jamaican environment. It’s not just about teaching to them, but also about learning from them.
Thanks!
Davide.
WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE. This was a life changing experience. The children were so great. They gave me and taught me so much more than I gave them. This was one of the most satisfying trips I’ve ever done. Jomo, his mother and Dwayne were great hosts and caretakers. Jamaica and its people will forever be in my heart.
Unforgettable experience! All of you should try it. It was only my first-time volunteering and I’d love to do it again through the same Jamaica International Projects.
