How It Works

Our small team at Jamaica International Projects carefully reviews the application of our hosts/projects before adding them to our library. This ensures that we list hosts with real needs, so our members help the most vulnerable members of Jamaican society. We conduct site visits and host interviews to ensure our projects are safe and secure. We also facilitate communication between our members and hosts who would otherwise lack the means to connect with volunteers looking to help.

Host Approval

We personally vet and interview each host before they are approved, and we assist with arranging structured trips & projects.

Feedback

Whether feedback from hosts or members, we pay keen attention to feedback and reviews to update our projects for max efficiency.

  • There is a processing fee of 5% that will be applied during checkout

FAQ

What is the age requirement for membership?

Individual members are required to be at least 18 years old. Members under 18 years old need a parent or guardian to register with them.

Why do I have to pay?

While we would gladly operate our memberships and programs for free, we are a small self-funded team with zero sponsors or government funding. We have to cover our operational costs, website and software fees, hosting, marketing, and more. We charge a nominal fee that is affordable when compared to global organizations and enterprises.

How long does the membership last?

Memberships last 1 year, which covers 365 days. This begins on the day you create your account, and you will receive your membership start date in your welcome email.

When the time for renewal comes, we will send you an email asking if you wish to renew your membership, with instructions on how to do so. We will never auto-renew/charge you.

Can JIP sponsor my trip?

No, we cannot. If you intend to plan your own trip, you can send it to us and we will share it with our network to see if any sponsors are interested in helping you fundraise or share your campaign. We can also add your fundraiser/trip to our monthly newsletter
with awareness.

Will I be paid for projects?

Don’t plan on it! If you are seeking a paid work opportunity in Jamaica, this membership is not for you. In some cases though, projects may pay a stipend or offer compensation. This will be outlined on the listing, however, these opportunities will be far and few in between.

Will projects be safe?

Yes. We pre-vet our projects and volunteers.

Will you help with a Visa to Jamaica?

No. You can check the Passport and Immigration Office for visa requirements.

Can you arrange a custom project/trip for us?

Yes! While this is not included in this membership, we offer Placement Only Internships/Volunteer Projects, Group Trips, Cultural Immersion Classes, and Virtual Internships/Volunteer Projects.

Why do I need travel insurance?

It is a requirement that all members who will travel to Jamaica obtain travel medical insurance and submit a copy of their policy to us. This will allow us to assist you by contacting your insurance on your behalf in the event of an emergency. For your convenience, one of our partners offers travel insurance plans for all types of trips.

Registering with JIP

The cost of an annual membership with Jamaica International Projects is $49 USD for individuals and $199 USD for corporate accounts. Memberships are valid for one year (365 days) and enable you to contact any hosts listed on the member page, as well as grant access to all the features outlined on your membership level.
