Description

Volunteer For Cancer Patients And Cancer Research Abroad In Jamaica

According to the World Health Organization, more women living in developing countries such as Jamaica are being diagnosed with and dying from breast cancer each year. Per their reports, over 1.7 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012, of which 522,000 resulted in death. This ever-increasing statistic is why we need people to volunteer for cancer patients here in Jamaica.

These staggering statistics are indicators that like the rest of the Caribbean, Jamaica has a serious issue with cancer. Due to a poor economy, cancer treatment in Jamaica is often expensive, and there are limited facilities and organizations who assist in cancer awareness and treatment. This is why your help is needed to volunteer for cancer research and awareness.

As a volunteer for cancer you would be able to help spread cancer awareness, work in a cancer treatment clinic to help in various capacities while receiving hands on training, assist in administering chemo-therapy among other duties.

Because of the technical nature of this program, it is perfect for those in medical school seeking practical experience, and we are able to offer an internship for this program if requested. So if you found yourself asking how to volunteer for cancer patients, you should join our volunteer to help cancer patients programs in Jamaica to provide much needed support.

How You Can Help On Your Cancer Volunteer Programs In Jamaica:

  • *Visit schools, communities, corporate organizations and other institutions to educate Jamaicans about the various types of cancer
  • *Promote cancer awareness and the importance of early detection and screening Island-wide in schools, workplaces, churches, health centres and at health fairs
  • *Set up Cancer and healthy life style talks, displays and demonstrations, pap smears and breast examinations at events and organizations
  • *Volunteer your services and get hands on experience while working with volunteer for cancer organizations to screen for cervical, breast and prostate cancer
  • *Work with trained staff to assist with diagnosis and treatment services for cancer patients
  • *Assist with performing mammographies onsite and on the road using the mobile mammography vehicle
  • *Provide counselling services and emotional support for cancer patients
  • *Join Jamaica Reach to Recovery to help support, counsel and visit breast cancer patients and survivors
  • *Perform support tasks to a local cancer society or volunteer cancer organizations, such as administration, data entry, event preparation, decoration, public speaking, outreach programs, logistics or computer skills
