Description

How To Teach Mandarin Abroad – Volunteer To Teach Chinese As A Second Language In Jamaica

Have you been wondering how to teach Mandarin abroad? Are you fluent in speaking Mandarin Chinese and would like to share your knowledge of the language and culture overseas? If you found yourself answering yes to any of the previous questions, you should come and volunteer to teach Chinese abroad in Jamaica.

This is a perfect opportunity for you to immerse yourself into our Jamaican culture while you teach locals about the Chinese culture in return. Jamaica’s dominant language is English, although you will find many locals speaking Patois, which is our colourful local dialect. You will interact with Jamaicans of all ages, especially students from elementary all the way up to the high school level.

You will be placed in schools and communities to teach Chinese to children, teenagers and young adults. For many this will be their only opportunity to learn a new language, as they could not afford to do so otherwise. This would also be greatly beneficial to you, as you will add valuable volunteer experience to your resume when you teach Chinese overseas.

You can also inject fun tours and adventure into your teach foreigner Chinese volunteer program in Jamaica by adding our tour packages to your program. Join tours on weekends and on afternoons after your project is complete. So if you wish to join a truly immersive teach Chinese language and culture volunteer program abroad, apply now to get started.

Some Activities You Can Do On Your Teach Mandarin Chinese Program Abroad Are:

  • *Volunteer to teach Chinese to kids and young adults in schools and communities
  • *Teach Chinese characters, alphabet, numbers, salutations and more to Jamaicans
  • *Conduct presentations to teach locals about the many aspects of the Chinese culture, such as traditional dressings, food, music, games and more
  • *Interact with locals and share in their stories
  • *Learn how to speak Patios, our Jamaican dialect as you interact with more and more Jamaicans
  • *Sample our rich Jamaican culture by enjoying our food, basking in our warm climate, relaxing on the beach or embarking on tours during weekends and evenings
Project Details

Teach Chinese Abroad Volunteer Project Placements:

We offer two types of project placements for our teach Mandarin Chinese volunteer programs. Volunteers who are certified to teach Mandarin Chinese will qualify for a placement at the Language Training Centre in Jamaica to conduct classes and teach adults.

For volunteers who are not qualified, you will be placed in an elementary school, junior high or high school in the Kingston, Saint Catherine or Saint Andrew areas. You can also spend a day or two volunteering in a community centre to teach a group of Jamaicans as well.

Requirements:

To join this program you must be able to read, write and speak English and Mandarin Chinese fluently.

Project Activities:

After your application has been reviewed, we will contact you to discuss the activities that you would like to engage in during your teach Chinese as a foreign language program. We encourage all volunteers to plan out their goals and what they hope to accomplish during the program. You should also evaluate your skills and talents and think of what you wish to share with Jamaicans the most.

Cultural Learning Aids

A great way of supplementing your program is to take along special cultural items to show to the locals while you are teaching. Some items you can take along include traditional clothing, food items, board games, musical instruments and more. This is an excellent way to give students a first-hand look at your culture.

Fundraising

We provide fundraising assistance to all our volunteers, so if you would like ideas to help you pay for your trip to Jamaica, you should read our fundraising guide. We can also provide you with letters to help you apply for funding or grants from your school/place of employment.

Combine Projects

You can combine this project if you wish to add another aspect to your volunteer adventure. Some popular projects to combine with this are:

Volunteer Teaching Abroad
Orphanage Volunteer Programs
Sports Volunteering Abroad
Human Rights Volunteer Abroad
Volunteer Abroad Business Development
Volunteer Abroad Women's Empowerment
Humanitarian Volunteer & Sponsor A Family Or Child
Special Needs Volunteer

Program Length

Our teach Chinese as a second language volunteer programs run from a minimum of 1 week up to a maximum of 3 months. If you are planning to stay longer than this, we will need to check your country’s visa requirements for staying that long in Jamaica.

Your First Day:

On the first day of your project your Program Advisor will accompany you to introduce you to the local staff and assist you with settling in. He/she will show you where to purchase lunch daily as well as show you around the property before you begin your project.

Daily Transportation:

Each day our company drivers will transfer you to and from your project. They will operate based on the time on your itinerary, so if you wish to spend more or less time at your project on a particular day, let us know in advance so that we can make the necessary adjustments.

Project Completion:

At the end of your project, we will present you with a Certificate Of Participation signed by our General Manager, and sign any documents that you may need as proof for volunteer or community service hours completed.
