Building Volunteer Projects Abroad In Jamaica

Our building volunteer projects abroad are perfect for volunteers looking for more physically demanding community service or volunteer work. Get your hands dirty as you work with locals to build and refurbish homes, schools, playgrounds, parks, beaches and more.

Jamaica is a developing country, and poverty is all around. Many families live in poor communities and are unable to afford to build proper homes to live in, much less pay for the repair and maintenance of their property.

Numerous schools, beaches, parks, churches and businesses also need the assistance of volunteers to help maintain their property, as well as assisting them with building new structures and facilities.

Why Construction Volunteer Work Abroad Is Necessary

Oftentimes these organizations are government owned, or receive little to no funding. This forces them to operate on an inadequate budget, which in turn prevents them from properly maintaining the properties to ensure productivity, safety and the sanitation, leading to them becoming run down and ultimately closing.

This is why volunteers who can use their time, resources and expertise to help local families and organizations build and repair their properties are needed to join our building volunteer abroad programs here in Jamaica.

So if you are looking for a physically stimulating project where you build and maintain facilities that will help to serve and empower a whole generation of Jamaicans, our volunteer building projects abroad are definitely for you.

How You Can Help On Your Volunteer Abroad Construction Program:

  • *Work with a local family to repair furniture, build fences, fix appliances etc.
  • *Volunteer at a school to build a playground, repair desks and chairs, repair fencing and much more
  • *Join Food For The Poor and other local NGOs in building homes for the less fortunate
  • *Visit a building site and offer your skills and expertise to assist local builders
  • *Request an estimate for the project you will be working on in Jamaica
  • *Do a fundraising campaign back home to raise cash and kind needed to complete your project
  • *Help fund and install water tanks, grills, fences, sports nets and more at schools, businesses, churches or at the homes of poor families
  • *Help with homework

Building Volunteer Abroad Placement

You will be placed at schools, churches, businesses, homes or building sites in either Kingston, St. Catherine, Ocho Rios, Montego Bay, Negril or Trelawney.

Amount Of Participants:

This project is open to individuals, couples and groups. We can accommodate as many as 30 volunteers at a time. Special arrangements are needed for larger groups.

You must be in reasonable physical condition, without any serious illnesses or health conditions that forbid you from doing moderate to strenuous physical activities.

No Prior experience is needed to join our volunteer abroad building program. If you have prior building experience, or if you are an expert in a construction area such as carpentry, electrical or masonry, we will be able to place you with projects where you could put your skills to good use.

Project Activities:

After you apply, our Program Advisor will contact you to discuss the activities that you would like to engage in during your project. Pre-planning is an important step to an impactful trip, so please think carefully on what your goals are during this time.

Here Is A List Of Activities That You Can Choose From On Your Volunteer Construction Abroad Placement

*Visit a school to repairs desks and other equipment
*Help in an ongoing project to build community parks, playgrounds, sports grounds etc.
*Go to the home of a local family in need and assist with volunteer abroad building homes and doing renovation

*Help with funding and installing gates, fences, water tanks, shelves and other needed infrastructure at local charities, businesses, family homes, churches and schools

If you would like to suggest an activity not listed above, please discuss with your Program Advisor.

It is likely that your volunteer construction work abroad site will not have all of the necessary equipment, material or funds to complete this project. If at all possible it would be a big help if you were able to put on a fundraising campaign from home to raise funds and collect supplies that you will need to complete your task. We will send you a list of items that will be needed for your project, as well as a link to our fundraising guide.

We will also be happy to send you any documentation that you may need for your fundraising efforts.
